Malaysia takes 4th place at DPWN World Sports Event

DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, has announced that the Malaysian Titans, the country's representatives at the Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) World Sports Event in Germany last month, took 4th place overall in a unique competition.

The DPWN World Sports Event, comprising football and cheerleading tournaments, was held near Munster in the Luneburger Heide region of northern Germany from 16 ? 19 June. This exciting event also coincided with the recent FIFA World Cup 2006.

The DPWN World Sports Event is regarded as a hallmark event; the first ever global corporate football and cheerleading competition of such magnitude. It is also a mammoth HR team building exercise as it brought DPWN, DHL's parent company, and DHL employees together to compete in friendly football and cheerleading competitions.

Calling themselves Titans, the Malaysian cheerleading team comprised 14 members, and were in full spirits as well as bright colours as they performed a number of acrobatic feats to an appreciative crowd of over 2,500 people.

Describing the win as a big achievement for the Malaysian cheerleading scene, team captain Michael Tulalian from DHL Information Technology Services Center (ITSC) said, "It was truly amazing to be part of a global event, and we are thankful to DHL for giving us the opportunity to go to Germany and compete against other great teams. Winning against so many established competitors from the US and Europe also adds to our excitement, and I believe that it is a great boost for our local cheerleading scene."

"Titans fought hard to qualify as one of the five representatives from the Asia Pacific region. At the DPWN World Sports event in Germany, Titans did Malaysia proud again by securing 4th place overall. It was a true testament to the Malaysia Boleh spirit," he added.

Describing the overall tournament as a successful platform in bringing employees together, Scott Price, Chief Executive Officer, DHL Express - Asia Pacific, said, "We strongly believe that the most prized asset in our organization is our employees. This event is an excellent opportunity to bring our people together in the spirit of camaraderie and teamwork. It is also an opportunity for our representatives in different countries to get to know each other better, fostering goodwill through an exciting tournament."
